Great link. It’ll be interesting to see how MySpace adapts to voice, but I think it’ll be no problemo. Second Life just recently integrated voice chat and that seems to be going over well. Wonder how broad SkypeSpace’s group chat will go.
O’Reilly is dead-on in that “this is just the tip of the iceberg for social networking convergence”. I think we can expect Facebook and Orkut to very quickly follow suit, and also to make some novel ground-breaking announcements. Personally, I’m very interested to see what’s going to happen within the next year re: social networking convergence with virtual worlds like Second Life, There, Multiverse and MetaPlace. I know that MetaPlace has a potentially viral strategy ready for the moment that their 2D, 2.5D and 3D metaplaces are ready. They claim that people will be able to easily embed these into their web pages, blogs and social networking profiles. I wonder though how soon their 3D strategy will come to life and if the other giants (especially Google) won’t beat them to market. It is def on in that space.
